Bob has over 25 years experience in Information Technology and Informatics. Following his graduation as a biochemist in 1975 he worked in haematology at the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science in Australia for 16 years, his final position being Principal Hospital Scientist, and during that time realised the huge need for the proper handling and processing of data for the laboratory (later called Laboratory Informatics) and gradually moved to manage a laboratory IT group developing LIMS and research databases. Since that time he has held positions as a business systems manager for an international pharmaceutical company, IT Director for an international biopharmaceutical company and for over four years ran his own consulting company Right Approach (for Informatics, Knowledge Management Systems and Business Systems). This was followed by 4 years as a Director, Informatics Asia Pacific for Thermo Electron and then one year as Director, Informatics Asia Pacific for Waters Asia. This has given Bob the broad grounding essential for appreciating and understanding the requirements of business and individuals to ensure a practical approach in applying technology to business activities.

His specialities include Laboratory Informatics, Knowledge Management, Document Management and Imaging Systems. His background in the Pharmaceutical Industry also means that he is fully aware of Pharmaceutical validation requirements.

Bob’s recognized ability in facilitating group discussions, combined with an extensive knowledge of IT is central to his approach when working with business groups to help them
• Understand their problems
• Define and Develop practical, cost effective solutions
• Implement new systems
• Manage change
•Manage Projects

Utilising Business System Analysis Sessions by either Process or Data driven approaches as appropriate, Bob identifies how the needs of the customer can best be met. This matches solutions to the customer’s strategic direction and goals, with the appropriate cost justification information. Implementation plans focus upon realising significant gains as soon as possible while still staying within the overall long-term strategies.

Bob holds a BSc from the University of Adelaide in Australia and has also been granted membership of the Australian Computer Society. Bob has published scientific papers in journals such as Pathology, Clinical Chemistry and The Medical Journal of Australia.
