He has over 20 years experience with LIMS and computer validation, and is an internationally recognized expert on the subject. Bob has been Principal of McDowall Consulting since 1993 specialising in LIMS, chromatography data systems, computer validation, corporate validation policies, electronic signatures and electronic records, process redesign, laboratory automation strategies and projects. Bob has over 20 years experience in computer validation; he writes the Questions of Quality column for LC-GC Europe and the Focus on Quality column for Spectroscopy. Many of his papers can be found in the Library on his web site. He is also the Director of R.D.McDowall Limited since 1998 specialising in qualification and validation of GMP, GLP and GCP computerised systems including 21 CFR 11. McDowall edited the first book published about LIMS in 1987 entitled Laboratory Information Management Systems: Concepts, Integration and Implementation , and is the author of the 2005 book on Validation of Chromatography Data Systems: Meeting Business and Regulatory Requirements. He has written over 200 papers including over 50 on LIMS including two key LIMS papers published in the A papers of Analytical Chemistry. Bob is the 1997 LIMS Awardee for advances in understanding LIMS and training; he is also the recipient of two awards from the Association for Laboratory Automation for instructor long service. He is also a member of the Editorial Advisory Boards of the following Journals: Quality Assurance Journal, LC-GC North America, LC-GC Europe and American Pharmaceutical Review.
