Founded in 1984, Benetech Medical Systems is a medical information systems
consulting organization that has developed commercial and custom software
for almost 200 hospitals and laboratories. They have just developed a genetic
laboratory information system (LIS) called G*LIS. The core module is currently
undergoing beta testing with other supporting modules under development.
G*LIS ties together the information management requirements of the clinical
and molecular genetics laboratory with the cytogenetic laboratory. It allows
the sharing between those departments of common information on patients,
specimens, and reports. G*LIS is a 32-bit application that runs in a Microsoft
Windows environment. It can be used in either a client/server set-up or
a single user PC system. It uses Gupta's SQLBASE as the database management
system, but may also be installed on other RDBMS platforms such as Oracle
or Sybase. Prices starts at $5,000 for the base module.
Other products include inCYTE, a comprehensive cytology database to manage
information in large-scale cytology laboratories, and AFP Expert, a prenatal
interpretive software.
