Established in 1982, M/MGMT Systems Inc. develops and markets the M/LAB
LIMS, which is designed specifically for Public Health Laboratories. M/LAB
employs a CACHE database that enables scalability for adding users to the
system and a high level of performance.
Their initial directive in 1982 was the installation and support of the
publicly-owned software program COSTAR (COmputer STored Ambulatory Record
System) for both public and private clients. Over the next 3 years, 20 different
sites were brought online and supported. In 1986, in conjunction with the
California Association of Public Health Laboratory Directors, development
began on a specialized LIMS which became known as Cal-Lab. Over time, the
Cal-Lab product evolved into the current product, M/LAB. The development
of M/LAB was accomplished with the assistance and consultation of a standing
sub-committee of the California Association of Public Health Laboratory
Directors which continues to meet regularly with various users to ensure
that the application evolves in a manner that delivers an increasingly valuable
service.
M/LAB is founded on top of the Caché database system, and utilizes
Electronic Medical Record filing standards. It uses an accessioning process
for specimens, employs the HL7 Standard, and has different modules for billing
and accounting. It can also perform testing for environmental samples.
