Varian has served the worldwide chromatography market for over 40 years
and today provides a wide range of products, including gas and liquid chromatographs,
GC/MS systems, automated sample preparation devices, and, of course, software
products for chromatography data handling.
In 2001, Varian acquired JMBS Developpements of Grenoble, France, a vendor
of chromatography software whose solutions run on 32-bit Windows platform
and can be tailored to address any chromatography laboratory requirement.
These solutions included HELIOS, a Chromatography Information Management
System (CIMS); DIAMIR, a Chromatography Client/Server software solution;
MATCHCOMPARE, automatic Peak/Matching software; ARAMIS, GPC/SEC software,
and CHROMDIS, simulated distillation software.
In March 2002, Varian rolled out their new Galaxie Chromatography Data System
(CDS) which links liquid and gas chromatography (LC/GC) instruments from
multiple vendors into a single, easy-to-manage network. The Galaxie system
was developed by the recently acquired Varian-JMBS group in Grenoble, France.
With a Galaxie network two to three operators can control 20 to 30 instruments,
far fewer than would be required for this number of stand-alone instruments.
For regulated pharmaceutical laboratories, Galaxie facilitates compliance
with stringent audit, reporting and security regulations, including U.S.
FDA 21 CFR Part 11.
