ABB's KM/LIMS system has been developed specifically to meet the needs of the cement and minerals industry with respect to the problems and situations resident in a production laboratory. To manage materials balancing, metallurgical accounting, inventory management, as well as maintenance support, the system has been created by and with clients in these industries, according to their needs and requirements. Specific attention has been focused on the need for solutions to tighten quality at reduced costs while permitting growth at a needs-based pace. Efforts have been directed at utility, reconciliation power, and overall modular design to enhance existing and future needs of the industrial environment.

ABB is a global company, with clients in all corners of the materials, metals, cement and minerals processing world. Remote locations and linkage of multiple plants have the special needs of immediate support, when required. In addition to multilingual customer support venues, ABB offers a 24/7 help hotline to any client, regardless of geography. This is possible because of the installed base, the location of support offices, and the immediacy of Web-based access. Onsite specialists are on hand when needed in areas of interest to PD, including a major office in Chile (Santiago), as well as site offices in North America. Key expertise is resident throughout the ABB system.

KM/LIMS exists as a "productized" solution. That is, for specific minerals-related industries, this solution exists as a proven product, fully integrated and operational in a variety of such operations and venues. As a "living" product, it has been established and upgraded through several generations, according to the growing needs of users. For ease of continuity, KM/LIMS is upgraded to clients automatically.
