Bika Lab Systems was established in 2002 to address the need for affordable and easy to use information systems and instrument integration by small and medium size laboratories.

The Bika LIMS is built on globally renowned web content management platform Plone and released under the general public open source licence, supplying the software for free, and sustaining the project by focusing on professional support services such as consultation, requirement analysis,
customisations, implementation, project management, training, systems administration, customer and technical support.

Bika is also available as a hosted LIMS service at a fraction of the cost normally associated with LIMS acquisition.

The Bika design is modular and can be customised and scaled to individual requirement. It can easily be combined with Plone accounting and CRM packages in the same instance for a lab enterprise solution. All improvements produced by the Bika open source community are integrated into fresh Bika releases at a regular basis.

Plone provides much useful functionality, groupware tools and workflow management, audit logs, security and internationalisation. Integrated with the laboratory web site, Plone further enhances collaboration and publication of information to clients and visiting prospects.
