Waters maintains a technology and product base in all the critical components
of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), including columns, instrumentation
and results management. Empower Software is Waters flagship chromatography
product. It represents a fundamental shift in chromatography data system (CDS)
usability by replacing cumbersome add-ins (i.e., system components that provide
added functionality through distinct installations) to a more scaleable switch-on
approach. MassLynx Software is Waters mass spectroscopy informatics suite
providing scientists with the fundamental data platform for acquiring, analyzing,
managing and distributing mass spectrometry information. Featuring intelligent
instrument control and the ability to acquire nominal mass, exact mass, MS/MS
and exact mass MS/MS data, MassLynx Software offers the versatility required
in today's labs.
With the acquisition of Creon·Lab·Control in the summer of 2003,
Waters entered the LIMS marketplace. Creon·Lab·Control AG was a
leading application platform provider for the chemical, pharmaceutical and
life science industry in Germany.
Their next generation LIMS is Q-DIS/QM, an integrated, fully featured LIMS
with extended functionality to support quality and planning activities. It
is designed for maximum flexibility and security (GxP, ISO 9001). It allows
sample login, sample tracking, result entry and storage, label, worksheet
and report production, status checking, test data and sample review, complaints
handling, instrument calibration and tracking, sampling, audit trail, documentation
and archiving, follow-up stability, supplier classification, certificate generation,
retro-validation, time
management, etc. Interfaces to PPS, instruments (e.g. Waters, Shimadzu, etc.)
and Windows applications are available.
The workflow and archiving system with integrated instrument control is Q-DIS/R.
Q-DIS/R archives raw and meta data and allows to control instruments directly
from their PC workstations, archive data, interface with LIMS, Expert Systems,
PPS, WWW, and view results. Once a reading is
taken, the raw data is sent into a relational database; at the same time a
standard file is created (e.g. jcamp, andi, mol) and stored in conjunction
with the original file. This enables viewing of records independent of the
instrument that took the initial reading.
The newest product is Q~DIS/PANDA, the Portal to the Analytical Data Warehouse
- all information for various experiments are now available to all relevant
persons. Redundant research, a cost and time intensive process is considerably
reduced. The 100% web-based system prevents installation of additional software
on each client, ensures cross-national accessibility, and serves as a company-wide
knowledge portal. Finally, using Q~DIS/PANDA in the data management strategy
of the organization leads to an increased productivity sought not only by
the main management.
Creon·Lab·Control's specification management system solution Q-DIS/AQV
is oriented toward maintaining testing specifications, and allows the lab
to update changes to the current version with a text editor. Upon saving to
the database, a new version is automatically created and distributed to all
clients. Q-DIS/AQV integrates directly with LIMS and offers point-and-click
referencing of the current testing specification including methodology as
well as view of the version history and changes. Q-DIS/AQV is also designed
to operate with document management solutions to allow for viewing of SOP's,
and provides multiple access levels including read-only capabilities.
In 2002, the company introduced Q-DIS/WIRELESS. This Web technology-based
wireless solution is based on the latest Microsoft .NET and CREON·LAB·CONTROL
Q-DIS/PANDA technology. Q-DIS/WIRELESS supports all handheld computers equipped
with Wireless LAN network adapters compatible to IEEE 802.11b (Wi-Fi) running
on. Data is entered and automatically sent to Q-DIS/WIRELESS server and from
there directly into Q-DIS/QM LIMS or Q-DIS/R Analytical Workflow system. Q-DIS/WIRELESS
interface technology allows integrating the system also into existing LIMS
solutions. The biggest threat to the security of handhelds today is loss of
the device. Therefore, Q-DIS/WIRELESS transfers all information without intermediate
storage on the PDA immediately. The immediate data transfer is documented
by a fully traced data trail until the data is stored in the final system.
The personalized data transfer between the PDA and Q-DIS/WIRELESS server is
protected by a 128bit encryption. Q-DIS/WIRELESS is 21 CFR Part 11 compliant.
The company was originally two separate entities, Creon, which was founded
in 1989 and specialized in developing information systems for the Quality
Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) applications, and LabControl Software
Development and Scientific Consulting AG, which was founded in 1991 and developed
spectroscopic database software and Intranet/Internet solutions. In 1999,
LabControl developed Creon Software's Q-DIS/R raw data archiving system which
utilizes Java technology to provide raw data archiving software for Internet
and corporate Intranets. In 2000, Creon merged with LabControl to become Creon·Lab·Control.
