Forensic Technology is a division of Walsh Automation, which has been involved
in the development of technology for industrial performance since 1969. Forensic
Technology was formed in 1990 to develop tools for forensic science applications,
particularly firearms identification.
The company supports and markets the BARD LIMS product. Released in the summer
of 2001, BARD (Beyond A Reasonable Doubt) is a modular integrated forensic information
system that enables information sharing among the various members of the law
enforcement and criminal justice system.
There are several BARD modules. The BARD Case Manager module is designed to
manage information associated with incidents. With each incident are recorded
the full details and contact information of the people involved, the details
of the crime scene, the information on the exhibits, and the full chain of custody
for each of the exhibits. BARD Case Manager makes extensive use of the latest
barcode technology to provide efficient case and exhibit tracking.
The BARD LIMS module is designed to manage all analysis requests made to the
forensic laboratory. It includes functions that allow management of the exhibits,
analyses, results, expertise reports, analytical instruments, qualifications
of laboratory's personnel, quality controls, etc. BARD LIMS enables a laboratory
to be compliant with ASCLD/LAB and ISO Guide 25 Standards.
Other modules will be developed in the future to extend the information sharing
concept to other law enforcement and criminal justice personnel. BARD reports
can easily be designed and customized with the Microsoft Office Suite. BARD
is delivered out-of-the-box with built-in templates of standard reports in MS-Word,
MS-Excel and MS-Access format. Reports are generated directly from within BARD
Case Manager and BARD LIMS by selecting one of the built-in or one of your own
report template. Because of its open architecture, it is possible to use numerous
other powerful third party reporting tools with BARD.
