Management Systems Designers, Inc. formally entered the LIMS arena with the introduction their new ForensicLIMS (FLIMS) case management and evidence tracking system in March 2001 at the Pittsburgh Conference in New Orleans, LA. A web-based, modular LIMS designed for use by forensic laboratories, FLIMS can be implemented in labs with 2 to 100+ users. The key components of the system are case management, evidence tracking, and examination processing. Through the use of standard bar codes, all evidence is tracked from the moment it enters the laboratory until it either leaves the lab or is destroyed., providing an auditable chain-of-custody for all evidence items. Management reports can be produced from a variety of templated or tailored to the lab's requirements.

While new to the commercial LIMS industry, the company has been serving the forensics marketplace for some 20 years. They have built custom solutions for the US Postal Service and other organizations. This is their first commercial offering in the LIMS market.
