Autoscribe Features Matrix Track-IT for Pre-Clinical
Pathology Studies
Autoscribe is featuring their configurable Matrix Track-IT software product
that has been configured to provide tracking and reporting for samples of
all types in modern pre-clinical pathology studies. A modern pre-clinical
pathology study may generate hundreds or even thousands of individual “samples”
that must be processed and managed in a GLP compliant manner. This is a major
undertaking and one that most companies carryout with some type of paper-based
system. Computerizing such tracking and record keeping eliminates these paper
records, allows samples to be located more easily across multiple laboratories
and sites and provides for a very comprehensive audit trail and “chain
of custody” for each item. With Matrix Track-IT, samples can be of virtually
any type, from wet tissues, to embedded tissues in cassettes and/or slides
as well as frozen fluids such as urine or proteins. Once a sample is entered
into the Matrix database, labels including barcodes may be printed and attached,
allowing the location and ownership to be constantly updated as it is processed
with full version control and auditing. It becomes an easy task to determine
at what stage in the process a particular sample may be, where it is located
and who to call to request it. For details, visit http://www.autoscribe.co.uk.
Symbion Systems Releases Version 2.0 of
its Standardized Analytical Instrument Software
Symbion Systems, Inc. has announced the release of Symbion-LX, Version 2.0.

universal “Spectroscopic Data System” for use in LIMS and pharmaceutical
developments, and other environments. In common with the earlier versions
of Symbion-LX Version 2.0 provides a standardized platform for controlling
a wide range of spectrometers and other analytical instruments. In addition,
it provides comprehensive data manipulation and application development capabilities
as well as the ability to communicate with numerous chemometric routines,
other third party programs, and enterprise-wide data systems. With Version
2.0, Symbion-LX becomes a fully Windows compliant program, with attractive
features such as the ability to integrate analytical data into reports written
in Word or other Windows programs. At the same time, it provides a high degree
of data and user interface standardization while supporting all of the unique
requirements of specific instruments. This is made possible by a series of
tabbed windows, some of which – such as “Data Manipulation”
and “Math” – are the same for all instruments. Others, such
as the ”Instrument Control” are specific to individual instruments.
The user simply selects the instrument he wishes to operate and the instrument
control panel will be customized for that instrument. Finally, Version 2.0
provides the capability of storing data either as files or in a modern SQL
database. The latter provides comprehensive search capability as wells as
ease of handoff of data to other software entities such as multivariate programs
and data historians. For details, visit http://www.gosymbion.com.

other body fluids. As the need grows to screen for larger numbers of compounds
or unknown compounds, as well as demands to analyze more complex samples,
the benefits of TOF-MS and quadrupole time-of-flight (QTOF) MS systems become
apparent. TOF-based systems can identify a vast number of targets without
the need for specific instrument or analyte optimization. The detection limit
and data quality remain constant for any given compound, even as the number
of targets in the method or sample increases. For details, visit http://www.agilent.com.

Accelerated Technology Laboratories Announces an
Enhanced Competitive LIMS Migration Program
Accelerated Technology Laboratories, Inc. (ATL) has announced a new enhancement
to its existing Competitive LIMS Migration Program. Currently this program
offers customers a discount when they decide to migrate to ATL Sample Master
LIMS from their existing LIMS. The eligibility requirements include
the following: The competitive LIMS must currently be in production and the
customer should have proof of valid license; and, The list of eligible LIMS
products can be obtained from ATL. ATL finance has crafted the Program so
that the customer has simply applied the annual maintenance payment from their
previous LIMS provider to ATL. Since this maintenance payment was already
a budgeted annual expense, the migration to Sample Master was surprisingly
easy especially since ATL worked with the customer to ensure the actual migration
project went smoothly. This included static table data migration of
data from the previous LIMS to Sample Master and providing on-site training
of the laboratory staff to ease the change to the new LIMS. This enhancement

LabVantage Explores the Topic of LIMS Governance
in a Webcast Featuring AMR Research and JohnsonDiversey
LabVantage explored the topic of LIMS Governance in a webcast featuring AMR
Research and JohnsonDiversey. The LIMS Governance webcast focused on how organizations
can achieve global laboratory information management standards and scale with
local configuration under controlled conditions. For many organizations, the
value of their current laboratory information management systems (LIMS) has
run its course. As many companies look to harmonize their manufacturing processes
around the world, ad-hoc functionality has been applied to disparate legacy
LIMS in each facility, in an effort to achieve this aggressive goal. However,
a divergence of processes has been formed among the different facilities,
and organizations have fallen short of achieving their desired results for
global operational efficiency and quality assurance. At the same time, information
technology (IT) resources have been exhausted on managing numerous, cumbersome
legacy LIMS systems, storing redundant data in multiple languages and inconsistent
formats. An on demand replay of the webcast is now available at http://www.lims.com/library/events/2009/governance/index.aspx.
Netherlands CRO Chooses LabLogic Detector
Software
Dutch CRO NOTOX BV has installed a BetaRAM 4 radio flow-through detector and
Laura 4 data collection and analysis software from LabLogic Systems at its
's-Hertogenbosch laboratories. The investment has allowed the company to standardise
its radio HPLC facilities by using Laura to control both the BetaRAM and an
existing flow-through radio detector from another manufacturer. NOTOX analytical
chemist Klaas Stienstra explained the need for the instrument. "Our environmental
fate studies are generally performed with radio-labelled compounds,"
he said, "so our radio-lab is fully equipped to perform mass balance
studies using LSC, as well as to determine the formation of relevant metabolites
by chromatographic separation on TLC and/or HPLC in combination with radio-detection.
"We chose the Beta-RAM 4 because it has a low background level and a
high efficiency, which makes it ideal for detecting low concentrations of
radio-labelled compounds. Combining the detector with Laura makes it a powerful
analytical tool for metabolite analysis. The easy exchange of flow-cells,
which we need when analysis is done by the high speed LC (UPLC) that NOTOX
specialises in, also influenced our preference." LabLogic systems director
Dr Huw Loaring said: "NOTOX is a new client for us, and we aim to establish
and strengthen this relationship by providing the latest and most modern equipment
backed by unprecedented support. "It represents a further strengthening
of LabLogic's position in the European radio chromatography market and is
also an example of the synergies that customer can call upon as a consequence
of our acquisition last year of IN/US, the manufacturer of Beta-RAM."
